I got a Sally Hansen waxing kit the other day (not the Brazilian kind but the white chocolate formula for regular waxing) and it didn't come with any paper or strips but it was supposed to. Sometimes people remove things from the box like, waxing strips and directions as well. I am guessing this is what happened to you if you say it doesn't have directions inside the box. I think with that kind of wax though you can either use strips or pull it off with your hand, which ever you prefer.
Yes, you should remove with your hands. You start removing a small part and with this piece (now not in contact with your skin but it is still part of the whole piece of wax) you will remove the wax with one hard pull.

you use a piece of cloth, press it on and rip it off
