Idk but really cut short or it will hurt like a *****. LOL

thats about right. It can also be a quarter of an inch. Cant be too long or too short. I mean, thats what I asked my asian lady that does it on me. :-D
I think they recommend 1/2 to 1 inch. The longer is better because there is more surface for the wax to attach to and ensure the hair is pulled out.
A half inch is correct. Shorter won't allow enough of a grip, and longer takes more passes (meaning more pain).
